The enormous variety in biotopes creates many possibilities in different ways of keeping cichlids.
There are easy to breed fish which don't require much experience but reward there keepers with numerous spawns and amazing display of colour, but there are also the more difficult to keep fish that offer a challenge to even the most experienced fish keeper. There are possibilities ranging from heavily planted tanks to tanks with just wood and stones, depending on what kind of cichlids you will be keeping.
Ph differences ranging from 3.5 to about 7. How diverse can cichlid keeping of just one continent be? And above all of that...most parts of South America have not even been subject to exploration, so there are many, many new species still waiting to be discovered..........
