South American Cichlids - A Brief Intro
The Amazon, Rio Negro, Orinoco....all rivers well known for their enormous lengths and widths and home to thousands of species of fish. From large predators like Cichla to small dwarf cichlids to peaceful vegetarians like Uaru and everything in between, the choices are innumerous. The enormous variety in biotopes creates many possibilities in different ways of keeping cichlids.

There are easy to breed fish which don't require much experience but reward there keepers with numerous spawns and amazing display of colour, but there are also the more difficult to keep fish that offer a challenge to even the most experienced fish keeper. There are possibilities ranging from heavily planted tanks to tanks with just wood and stones, depending on what kind of cichlids you will be keeping.

Ph differences ranging from 3.5 to about 7. How diverse can cichlid keeping of just one continent be? And above all of that...most parts of South America have not even been subject to exploration, so there are many, many new species still waiting to be discovered..........


Central American Cichlids - A Brief Intro
The term Central American Cichlid covers a very diverse variety of species, they are dispersed over a large area ranging from as far north as the state of Texas in North America, to as far south as Panama and across to the islands of Cuba and Haiti. Because of their large range throughout Central America there are all manor of individual requirements to consider.

From fast flowing, clear, well oxygenated mountain streams to vast lakes, lagoons and even estuaries! The cichlids live in conditions ranging from a pH of 6.6 up to a pH of nearly 9, with greatly varying degrees of general hardness... from as low as 2 degrees up to as high as 45 degrees!

There are species available to suit everyone.s tastes, aquarium size and experience. From the 4" Panamense, right up to 24"+ Dovii! All the cichlids are colorful, interesting and intelligent with bags of character! And the first time you see the parents lovingly tending their fry you will be hooked!
